I started washing the dishes in a local pub when I was 14 and ever since my first day, I fell in love with the way food was handled and the environment that I was working in. Since then I have travelled far and wide to gain experience in all sections of the kitchen. I am most comfortable in a leadership position and I am very proud to tell people that I work as a chef for a living. I enjoy the very basics of good food, from the raw ingredients to the final product, and pride myself in always looking for new and exciting ways to go the extra mile to challenge everyone’s palate. Four years ago I decided to start my own company which allows me to move around the country cooking in a wide range of establishments, from private dinner parties to larger scale events. Each job I pursue gives my confidence as a chef, a boost if you like, and I love fine tuning kitchens to maximise the potential whilst creating a safe working environment. I would like to say I could build a house from the ground up, but I can’t, however I am proud to say I can turn eggs and flour in to something everyone can enjoy! We booked Chef Oliver and Laura to cater for a hen do and we had an amazing experience. Right from the word go, communication in advance of the night was superb and they happily worked with us to draw up a menu which catered for many different dietary requirements. On the night, the food cooked by Oliver was superb and so delicious. Laura made the table look stunning and all round we had a fantastic experience. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for any event!
I cannot thank Oliver and Laura enough for taking all the stress away at my parents lunch party. They arrived punctually and following a quick kitchen tour they were up and running. Neither parent moved from the table until they said goodbye. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. The canapés, starter, main and pudding were all delicious, I would struggle to pick a favourite. Perfect in every way!
Chef Oliver and Laura were outstanding. Beautiful presentation, delicious flavor combinations, could not have been happier with our meal. And amid unexpected hard circumstances helped created a light-hearted, joyful experience. Thank you both so much! Cannot say enough to recommend!
We had a wonderful dinner cooked by Chef Oliver Charnock. He was very professional and responsive to any requests / dietary needs we had and food was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and cooked a restaurant quality dinner, and left the kitchen immaculate so we could relax and enjoy the evening. Definitely recommend La Belle Assiette, it’s wonderful to have a special meal prepared in your own home!

Fantastic experience with Oliver. The food was beautifully executed and the kitchen was left spotlessly. The whole party agreed it was wonderful meal and excellent value. It was incredibly helpful that he brought a waistress to help serve. She was charming and further added to the experience.

Hiring Oliver took the pressure off us after our exciting daughters wedding the day before, so for that alone it was totally enjoyable and worth it. Oliver is a lovely man and was very easy to have around, I felt confident in his confidence and expertise. The only criticism was not enough of the sausages as they were spectacular and everybody had more than their share. Thank you Oliver!
The overall experience was great. There was slight confusion when it came to how to chose the menu but other than that I found the online system quiet straight forward. Our meal with Chef Oliver Charnock was absolutely amazing. We had planned the private family dinner as an anniversary gift for our parents and to thank them for taking us all on an amazing family holiday. I was worried it might be fine but not spectacular, but it was truly brilliant. In the lead up Oliver was so easy to deal with, especially as i was in Australia, he was so responsive to emails and so easy to plan the meal with. He was on time, professional, very friendly, and the meal was absolutely outstanding. Kitchen was left spotless. I could not fault it. My parents are still raving about how great the meal was. On our trip we mostly ate at michelin star restaurants and Oliver's food was easily of this standard. Very happy and would book again if in UK.

The whole experience from start to finish was perfect: the communication with Oliver about the menu (nothing was ever too much trouble), the food was to Michel star standards, and the service professional, fun, unobtrusive yet attentive. With a nine course menu and six people, Oliver brought along a waitress to help out with the serving and the wine. Laura was efficent and friendly with a great personality.

From the moment we booked, everything ran very smoothly. Communication was great and adding an extra person was easy to do. The chef was very accommodating, offering a change to our pudding to make the end of the meal lighter. The chef was on time and the food was lovely. He was very knowledgeable and left the kitchen in the same condition as he arrived. Spotless! Excellent from start to finish.
The service through the whole process it was brilliant. Oliver and Laura knew what they were doing and just got on with it. The food was also very good and the only thing I would say was that maybe we started a bit too early as all of the food was done by 8:50 which just felt a bit early. But this wasn't their fault. Everything went so smoothly. From making the booking, to choosing the menu, to communicating with the chef in advance, to the night itself. Everything was perfect! And the food was delicious. I would have no hesitation in booking chef Oliver Charnock, or using La Belle Assiette again for future events.
Oliver was great - prompt, efficient and friendly. We thought it might be a little weird, as there were just the two of us sitting in an open plan kitchen/living area while he cooked, but he put us completely at ease by chatting and joining in with the conversation at times, but leaving us to it at others. His food was delicious: homely and tasty, but presented smartly. He cleared up everything afterwards, so we could relax and enjoy our evening. Excellent!
Chef Oliver was fantastic! The food was wonderful and the overall experience with La Belle Assiette was very good. The only glitch was that the chef we initially booked was cancelled fairly close to our event date. I only wish La Belle Assiette had been a bit more proactive in keeping me updated - I had to contact them 3 times before I was told that we were being assigned a new Chef. It ended up being absolutely fine, Chef Oliver was great, but the corporate communication could have been slightly better.
Oliver was a fantastic chef and really did make our night. The food was delicous and everything came out perfectly timed. He kept all 22 of us happy and it was a real treat to have a chef come a cook for us for the evening. I would highly recommend Oliver and will certainly be using him again.

Oliver is the perfect private chef. His menu sounded tempting, but the eating of it was better than the description could convey. It was wonderful. Beyond a truly lovely culinary experience, Oliver has the perfect personality for the occasion - informative, chatty, amusing - and handled our eccentric French guest with guile and aplomb. He was fabulous.
The food was delicious, and all the courses were really beautifully presented. The dishes were all very intricate, and we were amazed at how all the different elements had been combined together to create such professional dishes in my kitchen! I think my favourite was the "strawberries and cream" dessert - a beautiful (and delicious!) plate of different strawberry and cream flavoured desserts, far more complex than the name suggested!
Oliver was very professional and organised; he turned up on time with everything he needed and left the kitchen very clean when he left. It was great to have help to lay the table and pour wine too, leaving me able to just enjoy the evening with my guests as if we were at a restaurant.

I am a private chef because I got tired of working in restaurants and cooking the same dishes for months on end, being freelance allows me to cook in different places and venues all the time. My working week is now more varied and I love showing off my skills in a more relaxed atmosphere.

When I am at home away from the kitchen, I love my garden. I am obsessed with planting things that I can then eat or use in cooking. When I put on my gardening shoes and make a pot of coffee, I can let my mind stray away for a few hours on something else rather than cooking.
As much as I love food and cooking, when I spend all my time cooking for other people, it is the last thing on my mind.
The garden is place where I can relax and switch my mind off for a few hours.
The books I like the most at the moment are by Ottolenghi because I love the fresh ingredients, full flavour dishes and relaxed style of cooking!
Jamie Oliver. He was at a high point in his career with his first TV show, the naked chef, when I started my cooking journey.
I loved his banter, the words he would use, and the bish bosh bang approach towards cooking. He was young and game for for a challenge and I looked up to him and thought that is how cooking should be: fun and exciting. Cooking became fun and that is why I am still cooking and still enjoying it. If cooking ever becomes boring, I will hang up my apron
