About the Chef

Born in Galston, Ayrshire, Keven was brought up on a small holding where he grew vegetables and bred his own animals. When at school, he knew that he wanted to be a chef, so he watched his grandmother in the kitchen and worked in a local butcher. He has been a chef for over 25 years, working for many of Scotland's top ch...... Born in Galston, Ayrshire, Keven was brought up on a small holding where he grew vegetables and bred his own animals. When at school, he knew that he wanted to be a chef, so he watched his grandmother in the kitchen and worked in a local butcher. He has been a chef for over 25 years, working for many of Scotland's top chefs including Joe Queen, Bill Costly and Kevin Clark. He spent his early chef life in and around Ayrshire, Hospitality Inn, Highgrove House and Lochgreen, then moved to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Linlithgow and Aberdeenshire. He has cooked for celebrities and royals, including Princesses Dianna, The Queen, Michael Parkinson, George Best, Gary Linker, Marianne Montgomery, Laurie Holloway, Ernin Wise to name but a few. In 1997, he decided that he wanted to have my own restaurant so moved to Bray-on-Thames to work in The Hinds Head to learn front of house. Heston Blumenthal now owns that pub. He got to know Heston well, working in the Fat Duck on his days off. This was just as Heston started his journey with molecular cooking: he was possibly one of the first people to taste his snail porridge and bacon and egg ice cream. He opened his first restaurant in Windermere May in 1999, gaining 2 rosettes from the AA and being mentioned in the Michelin Guide. Once he outgrew this, he bought The Lymehurst, a hotel in Grange over Sands. He has now moved back to Ayrshire and looks forward to cooking for you and your friends! Read all Hide
