Kalpna is a passionate home cook who loves to cook and eat beautiful food. Despite the fact that she is not a trained professional, she has more than proved herself by getting to the semi final of Channel 4's 'The Taste' broadcast at the beginning of 2014. Her food was some of the best loved during the show by the judges...... Kalpna is a passionate home cook who loves to cook and eat beautiful food. Despite the fact that she is not a trained professional, she has more than proved herself by getting to the semi final of Channel 4's 'The Taste' broadcast at the beginning of 2014. Her food was some of the best loved during the show by the judges including Nigella Lawson! Kalpna has always loved cooking from a young age and was taught by the various women in her family. Her background is Indian cooking from the region of Gujarat. This is a mainly vegetarian cuisine and combines sweet, sour, and hot flavors in perfect balance. The spicing in her dishes is subtle but, flavoursome. Kalpna has endeavours to incorporate British ingredients into her dishes and tries to follow the seasons as best she can. She also likes to give traditional dishes a twist either by incorporating spicing to traditional British dishes or by using British ingredients in her Gujarati dishes, for example; a cardamom infused creme brûlée or use courgettes in her baked lentil yogurt bake. As a home cook Kalpna thinks food is for sharing with friends and loved ones, so her food is made to share with large platters in the center of the table for all to help themselves and eat with a knife and fork or fingers!
