Summer is a season for socialising and enjoyment, and with some simple food tricks for the summer, you can host a get-together really worth remembering.

We’ve collected a few of our favourite easy dishes to prepare, some made with fresh and healthy food and a few that are a little more indulgent! We love these tricks that are especially ideal for summer…so without further ado, bon appetit!

Chilled soup

It may be warm outside, but that doesn’t mean your favourite soups are off the menu! Why not try a cold dish such as Gazpacho or a cool cucumber soup to start a meal or as a light summertime lunch.

Fruit bowls

Fresh fruits such as melon, mango, pineapple and strawberries are especially delicious in the summer months. Enjoy in a nice fruit salad, or for something a little different, consider dipping in chocolate or yogurt.

Summer bread bowl

This makes a great dish to enjoy as an al fresco dinner party starter, or to bring to a barbeque or potluck. Scoop out the middle of a large round bread loaf (sourdough works well), and fill with something like spinach and artichoke or baked crab to make sharing fun.

Vodka watermelon

These watermelon slices make a great palette cleanser in between dishes. Cut a hole big enough to insert in a bottle of vodka, and leave it to infuse. Leave in the fridge overnight before cutting into slices that can be served up in cocktail glasses or on platters.

Guacamole

Avocados are delicious served with eggs and in salads, but there’s no need to waste any as they start to turn. Musch up avocados on the turn and add a little olive oil and paprika to make a dip that can be easily enjoyed with tortilla chips.

Tasty ice cubes

When it comes to keeping cool in the heat, cold drinks needn’t be boring. You can add raspberries, little dices of cucumber, or mango into water trays as they are put into freeze. These can be enjoyed with a nice cocktail ahead of your meal and can add a little infusion of flavour.

If creativity in the kitchen isn’t your thing, place the prep in the experienced hands of a La Belle Assiette private chef. We can arrange a chef to cater your event at your home, and they can arrive ready to make any number of unique and interesting dishes to make your meal one to remember.
